The first Cloverdale Citrus Fair Queen was Mary Bettini, chosen in 1924. She was chosen because she sold the most tickets. Since then, some things have changed. The emphasis of the Citrus Fair Queen Pageant is scholarship opportunity.
The scholarship portion of the pageant has been named the Dorothy Smith Memorial Scholarship, memorializing a past director who spent many hours to make the pageant a beautiful and competitive event.
To be a participant in this pageant, girls must be in school, between the ages of 16 and 18, and carry at least a 3.5 grade average. They are judged on poise and appearance in an interview with the judges and on stage, in addition to a small talent segment. We wish all participants the best of luck.
The Annual Citrus Fair Queen Scholarship Program will be held on Friday evening February 12, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. in the Cloverdale Citrus Fair auditorium.
The Scholarship funds are provided by by Ray's Food Place.
