2009 Fair - February 13-16
WELCOME On behalf of the Fair Board of Directors, I’d like to welcome everyone to this year’s Citrus Fair, a tradition that has been a part of our community for 117 years.

Once Upon a Time” is our theme this year, and it opens the door to many areas of Cloverdale’s history. After a little research, I learned that the annual Cloverdale Citrus Fair began in 1892 when a group of citizens (which formed the first Citrus Fair Association) had the desire to display the abundance of citrus fruit which had been introduced into the Cloverdale area and was producing so well.

For the first two years, the Fair was held in the Library Hall on West Street (Cloverdale Blvd.) at the north end of town. In 1895 and 1896, it was held in the hayloft of Sissingood’s Livery Stable on South West Street. In 1897, a large wooden building was built on West and First Street. The building burned down in 1909 and was replaced by a concrete building which housed the Citrus Fair until the current facility was built in 1951.

As you walk through the buildings this year during Fair time, you will have the opportunity to enjoy and learn about Cloverdale’s history. Join us with your family and friends and help us celebrate! We thank you for your continued support and look forward to seeing you at the Fair this year, either as a participant or a visitor.
